About IAN
Ian Laver is a literary fiction writer who has worked in the public service, the building industry, education and his own businesses. He began his writing career compiling government and training documents which he claims gave him a solid grounding for fiction writing!
His first novel, ‘Crucial Step’, was published in July 2021. His second novel, 'Uneasy' was published in December 2022. Ian also has two collections of short stories, 'Deadly Sins' and 'Hard Hits'.
Ian has travelled widely and has experience in organising and judging writing competitions, manuscript appraisals and conducting a range of workshops on editing, critiquing, point of view, proof reading, and cover design.
Ian's credits include magazine articles in Australian Woodworker; Harvest the Garden of Life and stories in five published Coolum Wave Writers anthologies. He was editor of a small country association magazine and had a regular column in the Sunshine Coast Literary Association (SCLA) E-news. He was Chair of the Coolum Wave Writers as well as President and formerly Vice President of the SCLA.
Ian has a particular interest in haiku poetry and presently convenes a haiku group on the Sunshine Coast. Ian's major awards include two Henry Lawson Emerging Writer Awards and a Tom Howard Short Story Award. He has won numerous other awards and prizes for his hard hitting and sometimes humorous stories.
Ian lives in south-east Queensland and makes original, artistic creative furniture when time permits.
